Austin New Years DWI Arrests

The New Year brings many celebrations throughout the night. Unfortunately, it also means more drivers being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. This New Year weekend Austin Police implemented the No-Refusal Weekend Policy again. Drivers that were stopped for suspicion of DWI were asked to provide breath or blood, if they refused Austin Police officers attempted to get a warrant to get blood drawn of the suspects. How many in just this weekend? 72 people were arrested in Austin for DWI charges on each night of the three day weekend.

Austin KXAN provided the statistics for each arrest of the three nights below:

Between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday, police arrested 24 people – 18 men and six women. Eight were subjected to breath tests; 16 had blood drawn.

Between 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday, 25 people were arrested – 19 men and six women. Thirteen were subjected to breath tests; 12 had blood drawn.

Between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, 23 people were arrested – 19 men and four women. 14 were subjected to breath test, nine and blood drawn.
