What happens before and during the test?
Before testing begins, a certified operator must remain in your continuous presence for at least 15 minutes. During that time, the operator must use reasonable care to keep you from placing anything in your mouth. If you do, the waiting period must restart.
The Intoxilyzer 9000 uses infrared spectrometry to measure alcohol in your breath. During a complete test, the machine performs operational checks, analyzes air blanks, verifies calibration with a reference solution and collects two breath samples. The two results must not differ by more than 0.020 grams per 210 liters of breath. If the difference is greater, the instrument stops the test.
What records may raise questions?
Certified personnel must operate the device, while a technical supervisor oversees testing activities and instrument performance. The following materials may show whether those requirements were followed:
